Father of the Malayalam language — poet of the Adhyatma Ramayanam and pioneer of modern Malayalam literary style.
Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan is widely honoured as the father of the Malayalam language. His Adhyatma Ramayanam Kilippattu and other works helped standardise Malayalam literary expression and brought epic and bhakti narrative into a form that reached ordinary readers and listeners. His legacy is celebrated across Kerala, including at his memorial at Thunchan Parambu in Tirur.
